And Here’s The Bad.

Everything was looking peachy, bikes, money, good job, etc.

Then I got a call off Lisa, saying dad had been found, presumed dead. He managed to shrug the whole death thing off, then the report was he was paralysed. Luckily nobody told my dad so he kept on shuffling along. The upshot was he was hospitalised. Lisa flew over to be with him as he died. But then he refused to die and she was stuck over there. She had a holiday booked so I said I’d cover looking after dad for a week. It wasn’t something to which I looked forward with any joy. He has a lot wrong with him and he’s literally just skin and bone.

Anyway, I got home from work on the last day before my emergency holiday and the postie had delivered this week’s mail. Amongst them were several from the DVLA. Yup. They’ve suspended my vocational licences. Incredible. The other letter was my new licence with just car and bike entitlement. I had to ring work straight away and tell them I couldn’t work any more.

I did my duty for dad, then as soon as I got home I listed my new bike for sale. Today I MOT-ed the VFR750 (passed) and got it taxed, so I have legal wheels for a year, now I just need someone to buy the Tracer.

I’ve emailed HR where I am now, to see if they have any non-driving jobs for which I can apply, and I’ve applied to Royal Mail for a postie job. As soon as I get a reply (if it’s negative) I’ll apply for some warehouse jobs. This is the time they are recruiting for the xmas rush.

Some good news, while I was away the hospital rang me and said they had some openings available, so I had my heart scan on my first day back to Blighty. Liverpool heart hospital needed that scan to proceed so now I just have to wait for them to call me. 3 months after the procedure, assuming it works, I can apply for my licences back.

If I can sell the bike I can get a low hours job and use the saved cash for extras when needed. The postie job is only 30 hours a week, the warehouse are only 37.5 hours. It’s going to be sucky work, but a treat to only work 8 hours and know exactly when you are going home. I’m sort of planning on 6 months. That gives me 6 weeks for Liverpool to do me, 3 months wait, 6 weeks for DVLA to review my case and renew my licences. Hmmm, put into writing that all looks wildly optimistic.

It’s all out of my hands. Meh.

Saturday…

And some good.

I advertised the bike on Autotrader, eBay and Gumtree. I only got one one person contact me about it. I thought he was serious, but then he seemed put off by me not having any service history for it. It turns out my Proton email was sending his replies to a different tab. He came around today to look at it, and after a bit of horse trading, ended up buying it. He came back and picked it up later on. Excellent. The money is in the bank. That means when I get a job we don’t have to worry about the cut in wages. The wages should sustain us, if we need anything expensive, we’ve got the savings. We can relax.

The crazy thing about the sale is the guy, who was about my age, had only just passed his direct access test. This is his first bike! 115hp triple, snap-your-head-back acceleration, a total animal of a bike. And he was learning to ride it on his way home. He got home alive, so that’s a good start.

Still no word from HR or the Royal Mail. I’ll try and find a ‘phone number for HR on Monday. I might just get another job, rather than wait.
